South Caicos Airport Redevelopment to Begin Soon

The Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority (TCIAA) on Monday announced that base works for South Caicos Airport has begun. These initial steps will form the ground work before the actual construction takes place on island.

The Turks and Caicos Islands Government has mandated the TCIAA to give South Caicos a full rehabilitation of the Runway, Apron, Fire Hall, Tower and Terminal Building.

WSP Global Inc. has been retained as the engineers for the project, and construction will begin early this year. They have made a commitment to successfully complete the project in a timely manner.

Members of the TCIAA team accompanied by the Premier and his Ministers held a meeting with the community of South Caicos on Thursday, February 19, 2015 to hear their concerns and see how they can better serve the people through this development.

The redevelopment of this airport promises to bring opportunities for further growth to South Caicos, boosting tourisn to the island. Upon completion, it is expected that international traffic direct to the island will be increased.

The TCIAA recently completed the redevelopment of the Providenciales Airport terminal building at the tune of 10 million dollars.
