Bougainvillea is perhaps the most bountiful flowers available in the Turks and Caicos Islands. It is a genus of thorny ornamental vines, bushes, and trees with flower-like spring leaves near its flowers. Sometimes referred to as “paper flower”, they are native to South America from Brazil west to Perú and south to southern Argentina. That said, being a native to particular parts of the world, does not stop wedding planners and to-be-married couples from all over the world from choosing this beautiful flower as their wedding decor! Local florists similar to the ones that deliver to Footscray, Australia might have this flower for you to incorporate in your wedding plans as well!
Now, to the star of the article – the bougainvillea! The flowers are brightly colored and come in a variety of colours including fuchsia, purple, coral (orange), white and yellow, although fuchsia is the most popular one. That said, they are almost always used as part of the decor in destination weddings in the Turks and Caicos.
Local florists over the years that we have been in the wedding planning business have wowed us with the creations of bouquets and boutonnieres. On our part, we have included them in the isle markers, around the bases of arch and chairs and signing table. In short, we love them as they contrast well with palm leaves and the sand.
